Description

Ambutech are one of the largest manufacturers of mobility products worldwide, distributing and supplying to more than 80 countries. Since the late1980s, Ambutech are known to be pioneers in their field and have built a reputation for being passionate in making high quality and reliable mobility products, by investing in the best possible manufacturing techniques.

An adaptive mobility device (AMD) can be used as a teaching aid and/or for people who cannot use a mobility cane. They are particularly useful as a drop off detector, for those with balance issues and have been designed to assist in training adults who use mobility canes but may have difficulty learning to navigate safely using a cane.

Features

  • Foldable and lightweight fiberglass design
  • Easily folds into 3 equal sections when not in use
  • Double cane grips and stair extensions
  • Composite aluminium joints, finger guards and double string elastic cords, like the Ambutech Fiberglass mobility canes
  • Not designed to support the user’s weight
  • Shaft colours – white with red bottom
  • Provide protection and can be used as a pre-cane
  • Available in three different types of wheels:
    • indoors (ES1505)
    • outdoors (ES1506)
    • swivel (ES1507)
  • Low profile plastic (indoor) wheels can be used on firm indoor and outdoor surfaces
  • Rover (outdoor) wheels can be used on any rural or rough urban surfaces
  • Swivel wheels enable the user to move the AMD in any direction, without changing its orientation on most surfaces

Benefits

  • Lightweight design for easy use
  • Foldable and compact for easy storage
  • Provides protection for the user, particularly if they have balance issues and offers a secure way of moving around more independently
  • Double cane grips give the user tactual familiarity of a cane grip
  • Indoor
  • Stair extension allows the user to hold the AMD in a balanced position while clicking up each step – uses the same skill patterns required when ascending stairs using a standard cane

Achieving Goals

Mobility canes help people who are blind or have low vision navigate independently by detecting obstacles in their path. They are intended for people who have had training that enables them to use the cane for safe and independent travel.

The rectangular adult AMD has been designed to assist in training adults who use mobility canes and may have difficulty learning to navigate safely using a cane.
