    Points to consider

    • Finding a suitable magnifier is very personal and depends on your level of vision, eye condition, the surrounding environment, your lifestyle and what you wish to read or look at.
    • Vision Australia recommends you make an appointment with our Low Vision Clinic. It is free and you can obtain one-on-one specialist advice and training in finding the right magnification solutions for your requirements. There is a vast range of different types of magnifiers at different strengths. An individual session can make a big difference in finding the right magnifier for you. Contact Vision Australia on 1300 84 74 66 to make an appointment at a Low Vision Clinic near you.
    • It is important to remember that the stronger the magnifier the smaller the viewing area. If you require stronger magnification, training in reading techniques can help you to use your magnifier effectively.
    • Use magnifiers away from direct sunlight as they can quickly start a fire.

    Helpful hints

    • The distance to hold the magnifier away from the page so that the print is in focus varies depending on the size of print and your level of vision. It may take some practice to get used to adjusting the height of the magnifier before you get the print or image in focus.
    • Use a sloping desk, a reading stand or rest your book on a few cushions on your lap to improve posture when reading which requires this magnifier to stay on the page to keep the print in focus.

    Product comparison

    • Of the illuminated handheld magnifiers, this one has the largest lens or viewing area.
